Austin FC has signed Przemyslaw Placheta, a former Norwich City winger, to a contract through the end of the 2028-29 season, with an option for 2029-30.
What happened?
The Polish international agreed to the deal in March and linked up with his new teammates on Wednesday as his contract formally began at Q2 Stadium. He is set to make his debut when the club faces Seattle on July 22. Austin FC currently sits 6th in Major League Soccer with 47 points, 13W-8D-13L from 34 games, and a recent form of LWLLW.
Why it matters for Austin FC
The move appears to be driven by a need for added width and transitional threat in wide areas, with Placheta's speed and experience of English football viewed as assets. The MLS side has endured an inconsistent campaign to date, and Placheta's signing is seen as a boost to their squad.
What comes next?
Placheta told club channels that he is excited to begin a new chapter of his career in Austin and can't wait to make his debut and help the team make a push in the second half of the season. He hopes to use everything he learned during his six years in English football to help the team and make a positive impact in MLS. With 37 goals scored and 45 conceded, Austin FC is looking to improve their goal difference and climb up the Western Conference standings, currently 16 points behind leaders San Diego.
